Morocco 2050

An artistic vision of the future

In view of the events that have marked the last decade: wars, false revolutions, global upheaval, global warming, and, most recently, the fatal corona virus pandemic, the thoughts of many of us on a global scale are haunted by the future. What will it be like? Will we all be decimated by this pandemic and others that will follow, or on the contrary, will humanity manage to recover? Will we sink into a totalitarian, dictatorial world where all our freedoms will be flouted, as is already the case in some countries? Or, on the contrary, will the future be built on more just and noble foundations?

What about Morocco? In what ways, from what angle, and with what vision do Moroccan youth see the future of their nation? Will it be one of peace and progress or one of incessant economic and diplomatic crises?

Seeking answers to these questions is equivalent to delving into the minds of a generation of Moroccans, and this is precisely what Bayt Al Fenn intends to achieve through the choice of this theme. So, for this 1st edition, Bayt Al Fenn is inviting artists in residency to present their vision of Morocco in 2050 through a unique, personal work and a collective work that is the fruit of exchange and collaboration.

Thus, through the individual artworks, we’ll get the artist’s unique vision, whether utopian, optimistic, pessimistic, or defeatist. But through the collective work, we’ll see how several opposing visions can come together to create a whole, just as a society would. And that’s where we’ll find this authentic vision of Morocco in 2050.
