HIYA OU HOUWA
We’re addressing a Moroccan society sailing between two shores: on the one hand, a modernity experienced on a daily basis in a country that has not escaped globalization, and on the other, a land with an ancestral history that carries a culture tinged with traditions omnipresent in the hearts and minds of all.
A society made up of men and women striving for progress by embracing modernity, while at the same time keen to preserve inherited values, find themselves faced with major identity dilemmas.
These men and women, all fighting the same battle, are nonetheless experiencing different realities in their aspiration for freedom.
Howa, Hiya is a theme that addresses young artists with a view to questioning these dictates and aspirations, and inventing new models. Deconstruct to better reconstruct.
This process of reflection on the roles attributed to each of the two genders can take several directions:
Sub-thematics :
- The right to control one’s own body.
- Freedom of movement in the public space.
- The right to emancipation.
- Employment rights.
- Gender expectations.
