Originally from Casablanca, Stranger Souma began her musical journey by perfecting several instruments. Enthralled by the advent and possibilities of technology in music, she quickly became the respected DJ and music producer she is today, creating a deep, minimal yet resolutely soulful and spiritual signature sound, a tribute to the old soul of North Africa. As well as being a DJ and producer, she is also the co-founder of the Moroccan label Volubilian Records, through which she actively promotes the region’s unique musical heritage, as well as better opportunities for its female artists.

Musical play
The sound piece Howya N1 is the first part of an augmented show using new immersive technologies. The show offers a closer, digital, and contemporary view of the result of the modern Moroccans' search for identity between tradition and new technologies.Evolution is seen here as a process of preserving identity rather than rejecting it by adapting to changes in technology and the world around us. In this way, getting to know and reconnect with organic instruments while trying to adapt them to an electronic set-up. In particular, synthesizers, drum machines, Moroccan percussion instruments, string instruments, wind instruments, samples, and archives of Moroccan music.
