Created by Friedrich Naumann Foundation for freedom (FNF)-Morocco, in partnership with American Arts Center, Bayt Al Fenn is an open call for artistic creations projects under the theme:
« Hiya ou Houwa. ».
Bayt Al Fenn is a thematic laboratory of inventiveness, a collaborative artistic platform for all disciplines, a space-time for reflection, experimentation and creation, offering artists support for their projects, from inception to public presentation.
Bayt Al Fenn’s creative support program is aimed at Moroccan artists, whatever their artistic field: music, dance, theater, storytelling, circus, plastic arts, audiovisuals, visual arts, etc. The stated aim is to encourage creativity in all its diversity, and to bring real added value to the Moroccan artistic production sector, with a particular focus on emerging artists. Whether they are in the process of becoming professional artists, aspiring professionals or established artists, artists can benefit from Bayt Al Fenn’s support.
ELIGIBILITYCONDITIONS
- Call open to artists aged 18 to 40, resident in Morocco and involved in the art field.
- The artist(s) must be available for 9 consecutive days, from September 18 to 27, 2024, for the residency session, and undertakes to be continuously present in the workspace provided.
- The artist must be present at the exhibition of the project on November 14 in Casablanca.
To carry out his work, the resident will have the following attributions :
- Accommodation in a double room with full board
- Several creative spaces
- The logistical support needed to produce the work (workspace, tools, set-up)
- Visibility on all Bayt Al Fenn and partner communication media
In return, the resident agrees to :
- Authorize Bayt Al Fenn and, by extension, the (FNF Maroc) Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Morocco and the American Arts Center to use his/her images and words in all media and/or communication channels free of charge.
- Conceive and produce an original artistic work related to the theme of the residency.
- Actively collaborate in the creation of a collective work synthesized from the residency.
- Be present at the inauguration of the work on November 14, 2024 in Casablanca.
- Provide high-resolution visuals for communication media.
NB : Duos and groups of artists are authorized up to a limit of 3 people per project.
PROJECT SELECTION
The candidate artist will formulate a proposal focusing on his or her artistic vision of Moroccan identity. Drawing on everything that makes up the art eco-system, the candidate should develop his or her reflections by linking political, sociological, economic or societal aspects to his or her artistic concerns..
Candidates will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:
- Relevance of lines of inquiry
- Originality, degree of innovation and futuristic visionary scope of the project
- Consistency of the proposal with the theme
- Project suitability to available spaces and resources
- Proposed methodology
- Prospects for the project’s future development
A selection committee will examine the candidates’ dossiers. It will be made up of members of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Morocco and the American Arts Center, as well as the supervisors who will accompany the artists in residence. Unfortunately, however, the committee will not be able to provide each applicant with details of the refusal.

APPLICATIONPROCEDURES
To submit your project, we invite you to download and duly fill out the attached form and send it back by midnight on August 15, 2024, to the following email address: baytalfenn@gmail.com, along with the elements below :
- A statement of intent of a maximum of one page describing the artist(s)’ intention, the artistic project, the research the artist(s) wish to undertake during the residency. It should include the issue(s), objectives, techniques, and work approaches (taking into account the constraints of the location).
- An artistic portfolio containing visuals of works and/or exhibitions carried out by the project’s artist(s).
- An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae, if possible, including links to social media profiles.
- You may attach any other useful documents or links (folders, visuals, videos, websites…) to support the application.
- All application files must be sent exclusively by email, and the total size should not exceed 10 MB. Please indicate in the email subject: « Application: Hiya ou Houwa. »
No applications received after this will be reviewed.
The results of the selection will be communicated by email from September 1, 2023.
